Turf Tip: Applying Gypsum

Late fall is a great time to apply gypsum. It provides the turf with calcium and rids the soil of harmful salt. But be mindful, gypsum can also strip the soil of beneficial positively charged minerals, such as potassium and magnesium. A great rule of thumb is to go back one week after applying and use a fertility product, which is high in potassium and magnesium, to fill those empty biding sites where salt used to be attached.
